QUESTIONS?
What will I learn in SBS?
-
How do I study the Bible?
There's a method called Inductive Bible Study (IBS) which is what we focus on. You learn how to observe the Biblical text, interpret it how the original audience would, and identify a timeless truth. Then, you look at why the principle is relevant today and learn how to apply it practically in your life so you can be transformed by the word of God.
-
How can I teach others to interpret and apply the Bible?
After studying the Bible for 9 months, you will be rooted in the overall story of the word of God, understand historical background, and you'll be able to ask good questions that help you discover the heart of a passage or book. All of these things equip you to teach other people to observe the text and interpret it, allowing them to experience the transformational power of the Bible. Additionally, during SBS you'll have some teaching assignments that will give you experience in how to lead a group of people in this journey of discovery.
-
What is Hebrew worldview?
The Hebrew worldview is, quite simply, how Hebrews view the world. Most of the Bible was written for, and by, individuals with this worldview. It is important that we understand the Hebrew culture and customs and allow it to open up the mysteries of scripture. Ultimately, we seek to apply Biblical principles into our modern-day world and understanding the Hebrew mindset helps us do that.
-
Why should I study the Bible?
Studying the Bible for 9 months will give you a firm foundation and understanding of God's character. This is beneficial for your entire life whether you remain in ministry, work, or study.
-
What are timeless truths?
Timeless truths are underlying principles in the Bible that are applicable to all times and cultures. These can be characteristics of God, ways of the Kingdom, or wisdom for christian life and conduct.
-
What tools can I use to study the Bible?
There are many resources online and physically, like: dictionaries, commentaries, bible studies, podcasts, and ministries that focus on giving tools to read, understand, and apply the Bible. During your SBS you will become familiar with some of them and learn how to use them to more deeply study the Bible. You will also learn to write your own commentary, do word studies and cross references!
-
What other things are taught in SBS?
- Why it's important to study the Bible
- How to find practical applications to your daily life
- How the Bible helps society
- The importances of reflecting with God
- The need for a Sabbath and how to do it well
-
What will I do in SBS?
There are not many programs like a SBS. It is a wild time where you live and do life as part of a community of people who are crazy about God and his Word. SBS students come from all over the world, from different cultures and Christian traditions and together go deeper into the Bible and discover God anew.
A School of Biblical Studies is an official program run by YWAM and has curriculum requirements. Here are the elements of the YWAM SBS program:
- classroom learning (9 hours per week)
- individual study (25 hours per week)
- intercession & worship
- small groups
- work duties
- local outreach
- one-to-one conversations, mentoring, coaching
-
What is the schedule?
The schedule will vary a bit from school to school, but your schedule will look pretty close to this example schedule below:

What is SBS like?
Discipleship is at the core of what we do. SBS is not just about knowing and living the Word of God, it is about the discipleship process we live alongside the Holy Spirit and the communities we're part of. During SBS you'll be part of small groups, one on one discipleship, worship, intercession, and ministry as a school and with the broader base community.
We don't study the Bible for the sake of studying the Bible and being blessed ourselves. Our desire is to see others blessed and transformed as they discover the beauty and power of the Word of God. Therefore, we will partner with local churches and youth groups with the aim to see Gen Z and Gen Alpha grow in passion and understanding for the Bible.

1 School, 2 Locations
What makes this SBS unique is that it runs in two different locations: Nuremberg and Bad Blankenburg.
We are very excited to be working together as two YWAM locations that have the same heart to see Germany united in the desire to go deeper in the Bible and the change that will come as a result.
So not only will you get to experience two very different places in Germany, be part of village life in the countryside and live in the heart of an influential German city. You will also become part of two YWAM communities.
