How Can I Get Involved in World Missions in 2024?

Written by Josiah | January 29, 2024

Should I get involved in missions?

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,  teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
- Matthew 28:18-20 (ESV)

The gospel of Matthew closes with a mandate from Jesus to his disciples that we today now refer to as The Great Commission. The Great Commission is Jesus’ charge to His followers to spread the gospel throughout the world (Matt 28:18–20), a mandate that still exists for us today.

With 3,397,000 people across the globe considered unreached, there has never been a better time for Christians to get involved in world missions.1 That's 42% of the global population that have no way of hearing about Jesus.

We want to help make it as easy as possible for you to help change that statistic

Here Are Three Ways Anyone Can Get Involved in World Missions

1. Pray

And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
- Luke 10:2 (ESV)

Jesus told us to pray hardcore for more people to get involved in spreading his teaching around the world. Imagine, what would happen if we all took Jesus' words seriously and began praying every day for more people to get involved in missions.

Prayer is important, that’s why Jesus told us to do it! Come on, Let's pray like Luke 10:2 tells us to!

2. Give Financially

The Great Commission needs your financial support. To share the gospel with 3,397,000 people we are going to need more missionaries, more projects, more churches planted, and you guess it… more finances!

Finances remain one of the greatest obstacles and challenges for world missions today. There are incredible missionaries and missions projects all over the world struggling to share the gospel simply because they are underfunded and in need of financial support.

Only a tiny portion of Christian financial giving every year ends up going toward world missions.2 Statistics show that for every $100,000 earned by Christians, only $1.70 is given toward reaching the unreached. There is a massive need for more financial investment into missions.

The Great Commission needs your financial partnership. Choose a missionary or a missions project to partner with financially. You would be shocked at how great the financial need of missionaries and missions projects are, YWAM Nuremberg had a financial deficit of -€43,000 last year. The need is huge, and yes even €10 per month makes a difference for a missionary.

3. Join a Short-Term Mission Trip

We always encourage Christians to get involved in mission trips. There are so many opportunities to serve and share the good news. You could go all in and do a 6-month YWAM DTS, take a two-week summer trip, or go serve on a Saturday afternoon with a ministry in your city.

There has never been more need but there also has never been so many incredible people and organizations making so much impact. If you need help finding a great ministry or outreach opportunity we suggest asking someone from your church who has missions experience for recommendations. We are of course always happy to help too! Don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We think short-term trips are a great way to serve, to gain perspective of the global missions need, and to make an impact. It’s also a great way to see if a full-time missions is something that would be a fit for you.
