We are all seeking answers to the questions of 'Why am I here? What is my purpose?' Ecclesiastes 3:11 says, "...he has set eternity into man's heart..."
We seek answers, we want meaning, we look for purpose in money and work, relationships and pleasure, wanting to leave some sort of legacy, trying to find something that will satisfy and answer that gnawing ache inside us that 'just wants to know!!'
There is a passage from The Last Battle, the final Narnia book, that has always intrigued me.Upon seeing Narnia, the land they loved, burn in fire and drown under the waves, the children walk through a door into a new land. It seems very familiar, like they have been there before, but everything is more real, more alive, mountains are bigger, the sky is bluer, the air smells fresh and alive. They realise that this is Narnia, the real Narnia, that old Narnia was just a shadow one, a poor imitation that could never compare. The unicorn tells it best, saying that this Narnia, the real Narnia, was the home he had been looking for all his life, he had just not realised it until now...
Hebrews 11:13-16 says, "These all died in faith, not having received the things promised, but having seen them and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they are strangers and exiles on this earth...those who speak like make it clear that they are seeking a homeland...they desire a better country...a heavenly one. So God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city."
I have lived in seven countries and have been very blessed to travel and perform in many more all over the world. I have seen a lot of people, many of them searching, many of them yearning, many of them asking those same questions. This world does not give us those answers and it does not satisfy. It never can do, it is a fallen world, a 'shadow-Narnia'. "For our citizenship is in heaven" says Paul in Philippians.
By travelling this world, in the great tradition of those who have gone before, the wanderers and wayfarers, the prophets and pilgrims, the nomads and the searchers, my hope is simply to reach those people who are questioning, people who are lost, people who are hurting, people who just want answers.
The road of this life is long. I try to travel as simply as I can. Strangers & Exiles has been set up as it is deliberately so that I can take these shows anywhere and everywhere, living as a nomad and travelling light, so when the call comes to go, when an opportunity to do a show beckons, I can simply grab my bag and go.
Strangers & Exiles shows are international in focus.
The Bible is God's message of redemption to all of his children. The message crosses borders and boundaries.
